THOMSON, GA (WFXG) -

On Thursday, June 14, FOX 54 told you a small plane crashed into Lake Thurmond with a pilot aboard and he was uninjured.

Today it has been confirmed that the pilot and owner of the plane is William Lux.

The cause of the crash was due to engine failure. According to an FAA official, the plane was a Stinson L5, manufactured around 1944. Lux made a mayday call (not to ATC) stating he experienced engine failure and where he was going down.

Another aircraft heard the mayday call and reported it to ATC who notified the authorities, according to an FAA official.
