Augusta townhall meeting set for June 9 – hot topics to be discussed

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

The Augusta Richmond County Commission is holding a townhall meeting and breakfast, Saturday June 9, to discuss hot topic issues such as the future of the James Brown Arena, the John C. Calhoun Expressway, election results, and the ambulance service.

The meeting is set for 9a.m. at the Jamestown Community Center at 3647 Karleen Road in Hephzibah, GA 30815.

Richmond County’s director of mosquito control, Fred Keohle, is also set to speak on mosquito treatment services.

    25 wheelchair athletes from the Charlie Norwood VA Hospital competed in the National Veterans Wheelchair games in Orlando, Florida on the week of August 2. These athletes competed in various sports, ranging from bowling to table tennis to softball to quad rugby, and so much more. One of these athletes won gold with his team, but that is not his only accomplishment since suffering a spinal injury in 2004.

    We now know the fate of the man who caused a crash that killed an airman stationed at Fort Gordon. Juan Castillo-Reyes pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and driving without a license. He will serve 5 years in jail before being deported by ICE.
