FORT GORDON, GA (WFXG) -

Ozella Gates, a library technician at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center on Fort Gordon, may come off as a little quiet when you first meet her, but she is passionate about her work.

She went to the Library of Congress May 1 to be recognized as the 2017 Federal Library Technician of the Year. Gates has been a library technician for 16 years at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center on Fort Gordon.

The award recognizes her dedication to resolving requests for reference and literature searches as well as managing the library, its holdings, and internet site. Gates was nominated by her supervisor for the award.

“I’ve made personal relationships with people," explained Gates. "I interact with them. I treat them the way I want to be treated and I also help them get to where they want to get.”

Gates is credited with helping to keep the library at Eisenhower Army Medical Center open until a new librarian was brought in at the beginning of 2018.
