AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Our "High 5 4 Kids" segment features children who are shining bright in our community - kids who do good for others, compete to be the best, or provide inspiration for their peers.
This week we're highlighting 14 year-old Zaccavion Turk for his talent and aspirations.
Give Zaccavion an Instrument, and he will give you a groove. The 8th grader is serious about making it in music - practicing about 10 hours a day.
"At a young age I just always played drums," Zaccavion said, "like, didn't even really have to be a real set of drums. It could just be a set of pots and pans, and I would just beat them; and I knew from that point, I just wanted to do that for the rest of my life."
"He picked up a guitar and his little hands just went to going," his mother, Britney Turk said, "and we kind of knew from that point on that he was going to be musically inclined."
Zaccavion plays with the James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils band, but he got his start with his grandfather gospel band, as a child. He still plays with his grandfather's band, as wells as his mother's gospel group.
For me it's easy," he said. "If I have a groove in my head, like a certain thing I want to play – I figure the notes out and I can play it."
Now the middle-schooler wants to inspire other kids, who have music on their minds.
"You get a beat in your head you just, " he said beat-boxing the rhythm that comes to him, "you just play along with it."
"I want him to stay humble and keep a level head, most importantly," his mom said, "and I want him to go as far as, as far as he can go with his music."
"It's a great feeling to have people to have my back," Zaccavion said, "to encourage me, to keep telling me to push forward – it's a very good feeling.'
"The best is yet to come," he said.
