GROVETOWN, GA (WFXG) -

Columbia County Sheriff's Office has arrested former Grovetown City Clerk, Vicky Capetillo for allegedly mishandling funds while she acted as treasurer for the Grovetown Lions Club. Authorities say Capetillo misused $20,000 in funds.

In 2016, Capetillo was placed on leave without pay under suspicion of her misappropriating city dollars. During that time the city of Grovetown filed a lawsuit against her during a federal investigation into the city's finances.

Capetillo gave her resignation last year which became effective September 30th of 2016. When taken into custody, authorities had records of her allegedly misappropriating $13,000 in funds that were collected at Turkey Shoot in 2015. And $7,000 in funds that were collected at Turkey Shoot in 2016.

Earlier this year, Mayor Jones made a point to let the community know that he intends to start a clean slate for the city of Grovetown and their officials.
