BEECH ISLAND, SC (WFXG) -

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office confirms the arrest of murder suspect Marcus Allen Turner. He was taken into custody following a standoff along CCC Road in Beech Island. A SWAT team was on scene for a short time, but Turner eventually surrendered without incident.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office says Turner is connected to the murder of a cab driver along Huber Clay Road on March 29, 2017. We're told 70-year-old Robert Hightower died on May 19th at an area hospital. Hightower had been there since seeking medical attention for injuries he suffered during the strong arm robbery.

Marcus Turner is not the only suspect in Hightower's death. In June, the sheriff's office announced the arrests of David Jerome Jacobs Jr. and Rakim Alan Barton. Jacobs and Barton are both charged with Murder and Strong Arm Robbery. Turner had been identified as a suspect, but eluded capture until Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017.
