JASPER CO., SC (WTOC) -

The search for two escapees responsible for killing Georgia correctional officers extended into South Carolina on Thursday.

After an in-depth search and interviews with the original callers, it has been determined that the subjects were more than likely not the two wanted suspects out of Putnam County, GA, according to the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office has stated that search operations have been suspended.

The two men are wanted after they allegedly overpowered and killed two guards while being transported. They then escaped the transport and carjacked a passerby. Evidence then suggests the pair broke into a home in Madison, GA.

"We had somewhere between 50 and 70 officers here. Beaufort County, Jasper County, Ridgeland PD, SLED, SC DNR, Berkeley County, Colleton County, US Marshals; so there are multiple agencies in the area helping and assisting with this particular situation," said Sheriff Chris Malphrus," Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

The reward for their capture has been posted at $130,000. The men should be considered armed and dangerous and if you see them, please do not engage them, rather call 911 immediately.
