UPDATE: Grovetown crash victim identified, driver of 2nd vehicle charged

GROVETOWN, GA (WFXG) -

UPDATE: The taxi van driver killed on Wrightsboro Road in Grovetown Thursday afternoon has been identified as fifty-nine-year-old Monika Christa Lowe.

The driver of the Acura, twenty-five-year-old Abraham Mohammad Mazhar, is charged with Failure to Yield while Turning Left, 2nd Degree Vehicular Homicide and Possession of Marijuana.


One person was killed in a crash on Wrightsboro Road in Grovetown Thursday afternoon.

Just after 1:00 p.m., the Columbia County Sheriff's Office was called out to Wrightsboro Road at Hamilton Road for a collision. According to sheriff's office officials, a black 2009 Ford Econoline van owned by Speedy Cab Company was traveling on Wrightsboro Road and a white 2010 Acura TSX was stopped on Wrightsboro Road, waiting to turn left onto Hamilton Road. The driver of the Acura attempted to make the turn and the Ford van struck it on the right side. The van continued on after the impact and overturned on the embankment.

The driver of the van died at the scene. The van's two passengers were taken to Augusta University Medical Center.

Wrightsboro Road is down to one lane in the area while crews work to clear the scene.
