Sumter man charged for claiming money with stolen lottery ticket

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division arrested 19-year-old Terrell D. Carter on Friday in connection with attempting to claim winnings from a stolen S.C. Education Lottery ticket.

Carter was charged with influencing the winning of a lottery prize through coercion, fraud, deception or tampering. This felony carries a penalty if convicted of up to a $50,000 fine and/or up to five years in prison.

Carter was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County, and the case will be prosecuted by the Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office.
