Augusta Fire Department longest serving Fire Chief passes away

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Augusta Fire Department's former Fire Chief has passed away.

According to the Public Information Officer, Willie Lee Maddox served for forty-three years in the Department and twenty years as the Fire Chief. Maddox was born and raised in the Harrisburg section of Augusta. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Maddox joined the Augusta Fire Department in 1953 and served as the Chief from 1973 until 1996.   

Flags at the Augusta Fire Department headquarters and fire stations are being lowered in honor and memory of Former Chief Willie Lee Maddox.
