Edgefield County car chase suspect captured

AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WFXG) -

A chase that began in North Augusta Monday afternoon ended with the suspect abandoning the vehicle.

According to Capt. Eric Abdullah with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, the chase began on Hwy. 25 in front of Walmart when a deputy spotted a 2015 Acura that had been reported stolen by the car's on-board computer, a system similar to On-Star. The pursuit led into Edgefield County. The suspect wrecked the vehicle in the woods near Rainbow Falls Road and took off on foot.

Deputies were able to find the suspect, now identified as Darin Montgomery. He is currently being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center.
