RICHMOND COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - On this week's "High 5 4 Kids", an outstanding teen is well on his way to greater success. He's a rising senior at Glenn Hills High School, an academic scholar and an excellent athlete.
Meet Robert Drew. "A lot of times nowadays, people always try to be like other people. I just try to be myself as much as I can. I like to sing, I draw sometimes and I play basketball, that's pretty much it."
Drew said his passion for basketball grew at an early age. "That's really like the only thing I used to watch back then, basketball and golf. I just always grew up with a basketball in my hand."
After years of studying and perfecting his skills on the court, things just started moving in a positive direction for him. "A lot of people aren't self-driven," Drew said. "You know they might claim to be able to do a lot, but they don't really work for it as much. I just really want to be known for just being that person that, " he said he was going to do this and that's what he did."
Drew has a 3.6 GPA and is ranked as the top ten of his graduating class.
"I'm striving to be top three, top five. Making the valedictorian or salutatorian is something I would be interested in," he said.
To add to his many accomplishments, he's well liked amongst his peers. "You have the smart kids, I have the academics," Drew said. "The sporty guys, I have the sports. And then the musicians, since I can sing. I can really connect with pretty much everybody on different levels and bring them together."
Drew said it's motivating to see him become a better person. He's working to take his basketball career to the professional level. With his drive and determination, he's well on his way. "Just dreaming you know. Having big dreams, just doing whatever I can to reach them."
Drew hopes to attend either Florida State University, Georgia State University or Georgia Southern in the Fall of 2017.
