RICHMOND COUNTY, GA (WFXG) -

Richmond County Sheriff Richard Roundtree is reacting to the violence over the past week.

"My heartfelt sympathy and condolences go out to all of the family members of the individuals who lost their live[s] this past week. Grief does not distinguish between black and white or Law Enforcement and civilians but as the Chief Law Enforcement Official of this county, I want to say thank you to those who still have the courage to put on the badge and walk out into the night. May God bless us all."

Roundtree spoke on camera with FOX 54 following the shooting that happened on the Augusta Riverwalk during the crowded Fourth of July festivities. He was unable to meet with us again on Friday and provided the statement instead.
