UPDATE: burned car believed to belong to missing man

BURKE COUNTY, GA (WFXG) -

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office says a burned car may belong to a missing 63-year-old man. A family member reported Simon Powell on Thursday. No one has seen him since around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1.

Powell was believed to be wearing blue Dickies coveralls and driving his white Ford pickup truck. Investigators say a car matching that description was found burned along Wilson Road around 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Powell has diabetes and needs daily medication. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Simon Powell are asked to contact the Burke County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 554-2133.

    The victim found Thursday morning in a room of the Knights Inn on Deans Bridge Road has been identified. The Richmond County Coroner's Office has identified the man as sixty-eight-year-old Obajalaiye Ifaghbemro of 15th Street in Augusta.
