CSRA (WFXG) - Post Office all over the nation will be moving some precious cargo on Saturday, May 14th. It's the annual "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive, and your donations will go to help food banks across the CSRA.
To participate in this effort, leave your non-perishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox. Your mail carrier will pick up the food. No special bag is needed. Examples of non-perishable food include cereal, pasta, canned goods (fruits, vegetables, soups, chili, tuna, etc.) and peanut butter.
Local donations go to Golden Harvest Food Bank and their partner food pantries to feed the hungry right here in the CSRA.
The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive happens every year on the second Saturday in May. Leaders for Golden Harvest say this drive comes at a critical time. Food banks experience a decrease in donations during the summer months, as families are busy with summer travel and activities. At the same time, usage of food pantries and soup kitchens increases as utility costs soar in the summer heat and children who normally rely on school lunches are now at home during the day.
