AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WFXG) - The Aiken County Sheriff's Office has fired a deputy who is under investigation for child molestation. Former deputy Robert Beard II was arrested on a warrant out of Richmond County. According to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, the arrest happened on Tuesday, April 5th in Edgefield County. He'll remain in Edgefield County until he can be transferred to Richmond County.
According to an incident report from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, a father reported the criminal activity on the evening of March 29th after his daughter sent a text message to his wife. The report alleges Beard performed sexual acts on a 13-year-old girl. The offenses began in July of 2012 and may not have ended until July of 2015. They reportedly happened in Blythe, Ga.
The Aiken Sheriff's Office says Beard had been on administrative leave since March 28, 2016. That's when RCSO notified Aiken County of Beard's involvement in the investigation.
The sheriff's office says Beard was eventually fired for violating the Code of Conduct. He had been with the sheriff's office since 2014. We're told South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is also investigating Beard for incidents that happened in Aiken County.
