NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG) -

Public safety officers in North Augusta need your help to track down a driver who put many people in danger last week. Investigators say the man in these photos took a cell phone from the Knox Avenue Walmart. He left the parking lot in a black Chevrolet HHR with Georgia tags PXV-9207.

When an officer tried to stop the car, the driver accelerated in a busy parking lot. The car then barreled through the parking lot of the Shoppes at North Augusta and the Chick-Fil-A parking lot. That officer estimates the car may have been going 55 miles per hour. The driver also refused to stop for another patrol car on Lecompte Avenue.

Public Safety officials chose not to pursue the driver at this point, believing he was putting the lives of the general public at risk.

The car is registered to a woman in Richmond County. We’re told no one answered the door when investigators visited the registered address.
