COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - The North Harlem Elementary community is trying to help the family of a student who was badly hurt when a tree uprooted and fell during high winds last week. The child was outside for recess when the tree came down. Two other fourth graders were also hurt.
According to a letter sent out by North Harlem Principal Kirk Wright, the injured child is still in the hospital. The school is collecting gift cards to Subway and McDonalds, so the family can eat at those restaurants on the Children's Medical Center campus. Kroger gift cards are also appreciated so the family can buy food and gas to drive back and forth to the hospital.
No word yet on when the student might be released from the hospital.
