Smell smoke? Two controlled burns on Monday

COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - There are two controlled burns happening in the CSRA on Monday. If you see or smell smoke, it may be coming from one of these.

At 11 a.m., the Fort Gordon Wildland Fire Team began one burn. It will cover 3,300 acres at Range 17 and Artillery Impact Areas.

The other controlled burn will happen on the grounds of the Sumter National Forest. Crews will burn about 924 acres along Woodlawn Road in McCormick County.

A spokesperson for Columbia County Emergency Services says this fire could impact Columbia County because of westerly winds. Many residents will see smoke. You may even be able to see the fire from the Fury's Ferry Road area.
