AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Agents with the Transportation Security Administration found a loaded gun at a checkpoint at Augusta Regional Airport on Wednesday morning. The discovery came bright and early – around 6:30 a.m. The TSA says the North American Arms .22 caliber handgun was discovered in a passenger's carry-on bag. The Richmond County Marshal's Office took possession of the firearm and escorted the passenger out of the checkpoint area.
The passenger may face charges.
TSA is reminding passengers that firearms can be transported in CHECKED baggage. (They have to be unloaded and secured in a case, and the airline must know that you have it.) Guns are not allowed in carry-on baggage.
This is the second firearm discovered by TSA at Augusta Regional in 2016.
