The health department is conducting tests due to two suspected cases of tuberculosis at Jefferson County Elementary School. The two people are not in school today – and they won’t be until the East Central Georgia Dept. of Health clears them. Officials cannot tell FOX 54 if those affected are students, teachers or administrators.
People who may have had prolonged contact with the possible cases have all been notified by letter. Those people will be getting skin tests on Wednesday.
Because of parents’ concerns, a second letter was sent home with everyone at the school. It gives them the opportunity to get a skin test at their personal expense. The health department still plans to cover the cost of testing for the people who had close contact with those who are sick.
