Woman killed in Sunday truck crash

AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WFXG) -

A Williston, SC, woman is dead following a single-car crash on Sunday afternoon.

The Aiken County coroner says 21-year-old Kimberly Smith was driving very fast on Old Barnwell Road near Wimpy Road. The truck ran off the road, then Smith overcorrected and the truck overturned. Smith was thrown from the vehicle. The coroner says Smith was not wearing a seat belt.

South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office are still investigating the crash. Toxicology results are pending.

    Aiken Public Safety Officers responded to a working fire at 611 Hampton Ave at 7:56 PM. As they arrived, crews observed flames coming from the front room of the home. The fire extended into the attic of the residence. Crew members began extinguishing the fire immediately. Both residents were in the home when the fire started and were safely evacuated prior to Public Safety’s arrival.
