COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - A man wanted in New York for the attempted murder of his step-daughter was caught in Columbia County following a crash on Thursday morning.
The crash happened at Appling Harlem Road and Interstate 20 just before 7:30 a.m. The sheriff's office says Walter Carpio-Galicia failed to yield and hit another car. Carpio-Galicia and two others were hurt in the crash. All three were taken to Doctors Hospital for treatment. They should all survive.
During the investigation, deputies learned Carpio-Galicia was wanted by authorities in Spring Valley, New York. He's accused of stabbing his 15-year-old step-daughter several times. Carpio-Galicia has been released from the hospital. Right now, he's staying at the Columbia County Detention Center until he can be extradited to New York.
