Reward offered after body found in Aiken

AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WFXG) - Fear across Aiken County tonight as investigators try to figure out how a body ended up in the woods! Someone found human remains off Trolley Line Road behind the Child Advocacy Center. That's not far from the campus of the University of South Carolina Aiken.

"An individual was walking in the wood line behind the 4200 block of trolley line road, where they discovered to be a body in the wooded area," said Sgt. Jason Feemster.

Officers with the Aiken Department of Public Safety and deputies from the Sheriff's Office swarmed the area just minutes later.

"We are working together with the Aiken coroner's office to determine the information we need to know for the investigation," said Feemster.

Resident Ray Kenner was just down the street when the body was discovered. He said this is a reminder to be more aware of your surroundings.

"We have to accept society today of being very aware of the environment around us," said Kenner.

The body caught the community's attention and news traveled quickly. Soon, the families of several missing people showed up wondering if this could be their loved ones. But authorities reassured every single family this was someone else.

Kenner said these incidents can shake the entire community, but it's up to that community to keep the streets safe.

"That's very important to us, to the community to all of us," said Kenner. "We don't find this kind of thing happening in our community anymore because it's very frightening to all of us."

Police are asking for help from anyone who might have seen anything suspicious along Trolley Line Road in the woods.
