AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A student who was grazed by a bullet at W.S. Hornsby K-8 School Tuesday morning has been released from the hospital, according to Richmond County School System officials.

Another student brought a gun to school and was playing with the weapon inside his desk when it went off around 10:45 a.m., school officials said. The bullet grazed a girl. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

The student who brought the gun to school is in police custody, said Israel Butler, spokesman for Richmond County schools. Parents of both students involved were notified.
