Prank puts Sego Middle School on lockdown

Prank puts Sego Middle School on lockdown

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A report of a gun at Sego Middle School Friday turned out to be a prank, Richmond County school officials said.

A student made the report to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office Friday morning, said Israel Butler, spokesman for the Richmond County School System. The school went on lockdown and deputies were called to the scene.

When deputies arrived at the school, they discovered that it was a prank.

Disciplinary action will be taken against the student who made the false report, Butler said.

As a precaution, the school will remain on soft lockdown for the remainder of the day. Parents are being allowed to come pick up their children early, School Safety Director Alfonzo Williams said.

Sego Middle School is located at 3420 Julia Ave., which is off of Windsor Spring Road and near Peach Orchard Road.
