AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Our High 5 4 Kids nominee this week is Madison Spensley. Madison has a busy schedule during the school year, and she's not slowing down at all over the summer.
Madison is quite the busy teen, and is very involved at Aquinas High School.
"[I play] volleyball, swimming, the spring musical, and this year I'm taking AP classes," she said.
She stays busy over the summer with a job at Dunkin Donuts and volunteering at the Wilson Family YMCA.
"She could be a whole lot of different places, having fun doing this and that, but she's a part of our family and has fun here at the Wilson Family YMCA," said Rick Simonds, the associate executive director at the Wilson Family YMCA.
Madison spends her time in the membership office, but she said the volunteer experience has helped her balance her busy schedule and her job responsibilities.
"You have to stay organized," she said. "I like lists, so you put what's most important at the top and just go from there."
Madison encourages all teens to volunteer at a local business to see how the operation works and to appreciate the behind-the-scenes work a little bit more.
"We are so blessed to have her and very appreciative of her hard work, and it's great that she takes the time out of her day to come by the Y and help us out," Simonds said.
"Volunteers, even though they don't get paid, they still help in organization to run properly," Madison said. "Without them, things could get backed up and it just gets more difficult for the employers to stay on track."
Madison will start her junior year in August, and said she can't wait to get back into her school sports. She plans to volunteer at the Y next summer, too.
