COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - This week's High 5 4 Kids nominee is representing not only the CSRA, but the state of Georgia in a big way. He will be one of 40 middle school students competing with USA Football's National Team.
Meet Aaron Harrison - an athlete, academic scholar and a rising seventh-grader at Augusta Preparatory Day School.
"I like football. I've been playing since I was six and I just continued going on up," Aaron said. "And I like to go outside with my friends."
Aaron said when he found out about the USA National Football Team, he had his doubts at first.
"I wasn't sure that I was going to make the team because I was like one of the younger kids, but I still wanted to try to at least have a chance," he said.
Putting his best foot forward and pushing himself ten times harder earned him an opportunity of a lifetime.
"It makes me feel special to know that I have a talent and a gift," Aaron said.
Aaron plays quarterback just like his idol, North Carolina Panthers Cam Newton. Studying and perfecting his craft daily, he understands the hard work he has to put in on the field to fulfill his goal of one day playing in the NFL.
"I mean, there's plenty of times where it's going to get hard," Aaron said. "Because it got hard for me, but I put in all the work so it wouldn't make sense to just stop there."
And with the support of his family, they wouldn't have it any other way.
"Enjoy it! Take mental memories, so that when you come back and everything has died down, you could say, 'Man, I went out there and had so much fun,'" Aaron's mother Rhonda Harrison said. "If he's not having fun, it's not worth doing."
Aaron said his coaching staff at Augusta Preparatory Day School has gone above and beyond to prepare him for this competition. Aaron leaves Sunday to compete all week in Canton, Ohio.
