Memorial service held for Riverwatch Parkway crash victim Eric Smalls

A memorial service was held on Friday for one of the three children who died in the crash on Riverwatch Parkway earlier this month.

Family and friends celebrated the life of Eric Smalls at Macedonia Baptist Church in Augusta.

Smalls' friend, Kiarra Jones, remembers 9-year old Eric Smalls as a good friend from church and her time with him brings back fond memories.

"He was kind, silly and he used to tell jokes and I used to laugh at them and he was really sweet," Jones said.

Messages filled up a white board with Eric's photo on Friday, where he was remembered by multiple speakers, including his basketball coach, who spoke of Eric as a leader on the team in just the third grade.

Jones reiterated what Smalls' basketball coach said, saying Smalls was known as a good basketball player.

"He used to love basketball, he used to be the player who would score all of the points," Jones said.

Aletha Snowberger, C.T. Walker principal, described Eric during the service as someone everyone on the faculty knew and loved.

"He taught us that you should run, everywhere you go, because after all you don't wanna waste time walking, life's too much fun," Snowberger said.
