Lane closures on Washington Road to continue this week

COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - Lane closures and traffic shifts will be in place along two miles of Washington Road again this week starting Sunday.

The lane closures and traffic shifts will be during the late afternoon, overnight and early morning hours for the next week on Washington Road between William Few Parkway and Halali Farm Road.

The first round of closures will be between 6 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday. On Monday through Friday, closures will start at 7 p.m. and last until 6 a.m. the following day.

Traffic will be shifted to the north side of Washington Road between William Few Parkway and Cobb Road. Those lane closures are only expected to be during Sunday night.

On the other nights, traffic will be shifted to the north side of Washington Road between Cobb Road and Greenbrier Avenue. Traffic will then be shifted to the south side of Washington Road between Greenbrier Avenue to Halali Farm Road.

All work areas will be one-lane sections with two-way traffic. Flaggers will be used on each end of the closures.

The work is part of the Washington Road widening project.

Columbia County officials are asking drivers to take an alternate route if possible or allow additional time for commuting. They are also asking drivers to be careful and be prepared for sudden stops.
