3rd child dies after wreck on Riverwatch Parkway

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A third child has died after a wreck on Riverwatch Parkway Monday, according to the Richmond County Coroner's Office.

Eric Jamal Simon-Smalls, 9, died Friday morning at the hospital, Coroner Mark Bowen said. He was pronounced dead at 8:37 a.m.

No autopsy will be done, Bowen said. The cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma.

Smalls was the front-seat passenger in a car that was struck by a pickup truck on Riverwatch Parkway around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Two other children, 8-year-old John Powell and 9-year-old Quamaine Jones, also died in the wreck. They were riding in the back seat of that car.

Smalls lived on the 1700 block of Sibley Road and was a student at C.T. Walker Magnet School in Richmond County.
