Former Fort Gordon resident sentenced for sexual contact with child

FORT GORDON, GA (WFXG) -

A former Fort Gordon resident was sentenced Monday for abusive sexual contact with a minor.

David Dean Erskine, 43, pleaded guilty to the charge in October 2014. He was sentenced Monday to 63 months in prison followed by 30 years of supervised release.

Erskine is accused of exposing himself to a 6-year-old girl and asking her to touch him in the fall of 2013 at his residence on Fort Gordon, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of Georgia. The girl - the daughter of a military member - was visiting the residence where Erskine lived when the incident happened.

An investigation started after the girl made comments to a relative, who reported the information to the girl's mother. The mother then contacted the Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID).

The CID interviewed the girl, Erskine and other people, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Erskine admitted to exposing himself and asking the girl to touch him.

The investigation also revealed that Erskine engaged in the same type of behavior on at least two other occasions.

If you know about Columbia County's cooling centers, you are one of the few. The County is trying to do a better job of spreading the word that these cooling centers are out there.  Don't let the gloomy clouds deceive you. The occasional cloud cover we saw on Friday is expected to disappear this weekend. This while the heat index will go above 100.  "Stayed hydrated, Check the heat index, don't go out unless you absolutely have or unless you need too," says ...
