The Aiken County Animal Shelter is encouraging people to become foster parents to animals this holiday season, in the hopes that the dogs and cats will find permanent families.
"We'll microchip the animal [and] we'll let you take them home for Christmas," Veterinary Assistant Sandy Larsen said.
The shelter just asks that you stop by, fill out a foster agreement and meet their requirements.
"We would have someone come by and inspect your facility," Larsen said. "Maybe have a fenced in yard or a good place that they won't run away in."
Larsen said the shelter takes in more than 5,000 dogs and cats a year and the foster program helps relieve the system overrun with strays and lost animals.
The shelter is also offering a holiday adoption special from Nov. 29 until Jan, 3, with a $35 dog adoption fee and a $10 cat fee. The normal adoption fee is $70 for dogs and $35 for cats.
