2 homes evacuated due to gas leak in Columbia Co. neighborhood

COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) -

Two Columbia County homes have been evacuated due to a gas leak. 

A contractor hit a two-inch service line across from 429 Buxton Lane in Riverwood Plantation, said Pam Tucker, EMA director for Columbia County. A portion of Buxton Lane is temporarily closed. 

Tucker said the two home were evacuated "in an abundance of caution."

Repair crews are working to stop the leak.

    FOX 54 has a crew on the scene in McDuffie County where there's a heavy law enforcement presence.  The McDuffie County Sheriffs Office, along with the McDuffie County Fire Rescue and the McDuffie County EMS are all posted at the intersection of Red Haven Drive and Stage Coach Road and the road is blocked off to traffic.
