AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - They board of elections will debut their new advance voting center on Monday - the first day of advance voting - hoping it will help voters.
"We're excited that it's the kickoff for advance voting period, but to be able to showcase it in such a way, it's doubly exciting," said Lynn Bailey, elections director.
Starting Monday, if you're headed down to participate in advance voting, there will be some changes.
"The room is much larger than the space we had before," said Bailey. "And so instead of having 10 machines in the room, we'll be able to have 20 machines in the room, so that is one benefit."
And in the past - security has been tight - but not anymore.
"They will be no longer be required to go through security screening," said Bailey. "If they're coming in just to vote, they'll walk right into the community room from the parking lot, easy access in and out."
The change is part of the renovations of the municipal building - where the entrance will be switched to Telfair Street. The voting center will be used for other purposes throughout the year.
"Thus far, we've been able to have first dibs on it so far when it's voting season, so it will be our voting center moving forward," said Bailey.
That advance voting will be from 8:30 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon.
