AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WFXG) - A former officer at the Aiken County Detention Center is being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office fired the officer for violation of multiple policies after receiving information about possible misconduct, Capt. Eric Abdullah said. After an internal investigation, the sheriff's office turned the information over to SLED so that the agency can determine if any criminal acts were committed.

"SLED is investigating allegations involving an employee at the Aiken County Detention Center. The request to investigate came to us from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and we are continuing in investigations into the matter," SLED Spokesperson Thom Berry said.

The officer's name is not being released because the investigation is ongoing, Abdullah said.

The sheriff's office won't say exactly what caused the officer's termination, but said that there was no inappropriate physical contact between the officer and the inmate.
