BELVEDERE, SC (WFXG) - Playing the lottery is a hobby for one North Augusta retiree. This week his hobby paid off.
A $10 scratch-off ticket he purchased in the S.C. Education Lottery at the Kangaroo Express on Edgefield Drive in the town of Belvedere won him $200,000.
And he wasn't taking any chances with the winning ticket. He slept with a gun on top of it.
"My stomach's been in knots," he told lottery officials when he cashed in the Money Money Money scratch-off yesterday.
"I feel better already," he said.
He excitedly spoke of paying off his house and giving 10 percent to his church.
"Twice a week I'll go to the store and buy a newspaper, a cup of coffee and some scratch-offs," he said. "That's not changing."
As of this release, one top prize of $200,000 remains in the $10 Money Money Money game. The odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 600,000.
For selling the claimed ticket, the Kangaroo Express in Belvedere received a $2,000 commission.
