AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

An Augusta woman is accused of using an 8-year-old girl to help her shoplift underwear and leggings from the Walmart on Wrightsboro Road Friday.

Sabrina Monique Mayfield, 30, admitted to deputies that she had the child carry the bag of items worth $69.82 out of the store without paying, according to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office incident report.

A deputy on special duty at the store responded around 7:10 p.m. after an employee said he saw Mayfield and the child trying to get away without paying for the merchandise, according to the report.

The deputy couldn't find the 8-year-old child, but Mayfield admitted that the child had been carrying the bag for her, according to the report. Mayfield wouldn't tell deputies who the child was.

Mayfield was booked at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on a misdemeanor charged of theft by shoplifting.
