Raccoon found in south Augusta tests positive for rabies

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A raccoon found near Mike Padgett Highway and Rollins Road tested positive for rabies, according to Richmond County Health Department officials. 

The Georgia Public Health Laboratory tested the raccoon and confirmed it was positive for the disease. 

Residents in the area have been notified by fliers distributed to their homes.
