Suspect in deadly church parking lot shooting back in Columbia Co.

COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - The man accused of shooting and killing another man in the parking lot of a Martinez church in August is back in Columbia County.

Daniel Robinson was extradited back to Georgia from Jacksonville, Fla., where he was arrested. He arrived at the Columbia County Detention Center just before 2 p.m.

Robinson is accused of shooting and killing 55-year-old William Davitte in the parking lot of Marvin United Methodist Church on Belair Road around 10:30 p.m. Aug. 14, according to the sheriff's office and the coroner's office.

Deputies said William Davitte was at the church to turn on the sprinkler system when Robinson started attacking William Davitte's wife, Jennifer Davitte, while trying to steal the couple's car. According to the sheriff's office, Robinson shot William Davitte when he came over to help his wife.
