Update: Man identified in fatal wreck in Beech Island

BEECH ISLAND, SC (WFXG) - UPDATE: The Aiken County Coroner's Office has identified the man killed in a head on collision in Beech Island, South Carolina on Saturday afternoon.

44 year old Patrick S. Rolland, of Grovetown, was pronounced dead at the scene of a two vehicle collision near the intersection of Wilson Road and Highway 278.

The collision happen around noon on Saturday.

A witness said Rolland was traveling east on 278 toward New Ellenton in a 1992 Toyota Corolla.

A westbound 2001 Jeep Liberty struck Rolland's vehicle.

45 year old Richard Moody, 38 year old Tiffany Gibson, 3 year old Ella Gibson, 2 year old Alva Moody, and 20 year old Hannah Moody were in the Jeep.  Richard Moody was driving the Jeep.

Rolland was the only one in his car.

Authorities think the Jeep Liberty may have been trying to pass another vehicle when the collision occurred.

All five of the occupants were taken to hospitals in Augusta.

Their names and conditions are not known at this time.

The SCHP and the Aiken County Coroner's Office are investigating.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol has confirmed a car accident in Beech Island Saturday afternoon killed one person.

Highway Patrol said the accident happened just after 12:00 p.m. on Highway 2-78 and involved two vehicles.

They are still investigating the incident and said they will provide more details as they become available.
