Deputies find drugs, guns in house on Hephzibah-McBean Road

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A man and woman are facing charges after Richmond County deputies said they found meth, marijuana and guns at a residence on Hephzibah-McBean Road.

Karl Robert Powick, 40, and Lauren Elise Staples, 32, are each charged with trafficking meth, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies pulled over a GMC Sonoma pickup truck around 12:14 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Pinehil Food Store located at 1680 Brown Road.

Investigators found 2 ounces of crystal meth inside the truck, according to the sheriff's office. Further investigation led the narcotics team to conduct a search at 1010 Hephzibah-McBean Road.

They found 2.1 pounds of meth, 45 grams of marijuana, four digital scales, an undisclosed amount of money and 17 guns at the residence, according to the sheriff's office.

Powick and Staples are being held at the Richmond County jail.
