AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - The open burning ban issued by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in May will be lifted on Oct. 1 for several Georgia counties, including Richmond and Columbia counties.
Residents still must have a Georgia Forestry permit to burn. Permits can be obtained by calling 1-877-652-2876 or by going to the Georgia Forestry Commission website.
Permits are only good for the day they are issued and will only be issued when weather conditions are deemed safe for burning.
The Georgia Environmental Protection Division imposes the burning ban each year between May 1 and September 30 to comply with federal Clean Air regulations.
