EVANS, GA (WFXG) - A 2.2-magnitude earthquake hit near Evans Sunday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey website.
The quake struck at 11:26 p.m. and was recorded at 10.2 miles NNW of Evans, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. See details about the earthquake.
That's just above the Thurmond Dam, said Columbia County EMA Director Pam Tucker. Earthquakes this small are usually very hard to detect, Tucker said. Her office did not receive any reports from the public about the earthquake.
In February, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake centered near Edgefield, S.C. shook the CSRA, followed by a 3.2-magnitude aftershock.
The largest earthquake in the area was a 5.1-magnitude quake in 1916, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
