Town of Johnston appoints new police chief

JOHNSTON, SC (WFXG) - The town of Johnston made a historic move by appointing its first black police chief.

Lamaz Robinson, who has been serving as interim police chief since former Chief Chris Aston resigned effective July 9, is now officially policee chief for the town.

A public formal swearing in will be held Oct. 9 at the regularly-scheduled town council meeting.

Robinson started with the Johnston Police Department in 2004, and has risen through the ranks, holding positions including investigator, corporal, sergeant and lieutenant.
