Traffic is being diverted after a gas leak on Wrightsboro Road at Marks Church Road, according to the Augusta Fire Department.
Augusta firefighters are at the scene, and traffic is being redirected from Wrightsboro Road to Capps Street and Garden Spring Lane.
A contractor for Atlanta Gas and Light was boring underneath Wrightsboro Road for gas line installation when it clipped another gas line, according to the fire department. Gas in the area has been cut off.
Firefighters and the gas company checked surrounding buildings for irregular levels but didn't find anything. No buildings have been evacuated.
Atlanta Gas and Light is in the process of removing asphalt to sufficiently locate the problem and stop it. Wrightsboro Road will be closed for an undetermined amount of time.
The Augusta Fire Department has two engines and a ladder truck on the scene to provide emergency support.
