Pooler readies for Patriot Weekend

POOLER, GA (WTOC) -

The City of Pooler is getting ready to celebrate patriots.

Patriot Weekend is September 4, 5 and 6, and the event showcases Pooler and some of the finest young men and women in America, our soldiers.

Proceeds from the festival and 5K will benefit the Warrior Transition Battalion at Fort Stewart, the place where wounded, injured and ill soldiers go to heal.

"It means a lot to the city because this is our support for a great organization to help our military, to help those who have come back and are trying to go through transition," said Pooler Mayor Mike Lamb.

"There's a constant theme through the whole event about patriotism, wanting to honor our military," said John Fender, senior pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Pooler. "The great thing about this year, with Pooler growing so fast, we have partnered with some key organizations, like the Chamber of Commerce, Savannah Quarters. GA Race Services is putting on the 5K, so this year the difference is we have something for just about everybody."
