AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A 19-year-old man accused of trying to hit a Georgia Regents University police officer with his car was formally charged this week.
Donte Stewart was indicted on three charges: aggravated assault on a police officer, giving a false name to an officer and obstruction of a law enforcement officer, according to court records.
GRU police officers responded to a noise complaint at the University Grove apartments on Feb. 22.
Officer Wesley Martin asked Stewart to identify himself, but Martin ran and got in his car, according to a release from the school. Martin tried to block the exits, and school officials said that's when Stewart tried to run him over.
Martin fired his gun, and a bullet grazed Stewart's face, injuring him, according to GRU.
