MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

We are finding out what the next step is in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's review of accusations of civil rights violations by members of the Madison County Sheriff's Office.

The FBI began the investigation earlier this year. An FBI spokesperson confirmed the investigation is still on-going.

We reached out to the FBI after multiple viewers reached out to us asking the status of that investigation.

Spokesperson Paul Daymond released the following statement: "We do have an ongoing civil rights investigation. The results of that investigation will be turned over to the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice for review."

Daymond would not make a further comment beyond that.

This all revolves around a confrontation between Robert Bryant and Madison County deputies back in the summer of 2012.

Bryant filed the suit against the department earlier this year after claiming he was beaten by deputies on two separate occasions in 2012.

The sheriff's office settled the case around four weeks ago.

No criminal charges have been brought against anyone named in the suit.
