With 'Tent City' closed, Huntsville's homeless scattered

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

It's been more than two months since homeless people in Huntsville living in "Tent City" were told to leave.

Homeless advocates and the Huntsville Police Department scrambled to to relocate dozens of people.

We spoke with Huntsville police, who said the situation seemed very much resolved.

The Department of Transportation is happy because they are no longer on their property.

Sergeant Mark Roberts said the homeless population now seemed to be scattered in different areas in the city.

We did stop by one area underneath 565, near the Madison County Jail. There were a few camps set up there, but people we talked to said they don't anticipate more setting up in the area. 

People we spoke with at that camp said they are still receiving help from area homeless organizations and churches.

HPD said as long as they aren't on private property and they don't cause a disturbance, they will be left alone.
